The Loki series coming to Disney+ has landed its showrunner: Rick and Morty’s Michael Waldron.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Waldron will write the pilot episode, executive produce, and act as the show’s creator. Tom Hiddleston, who has portrayed Loki numerous times in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will reprise his role in the series.
This Loki series is rumored to follow the Norse trickster god as he shape-shifts and pops up throughout human history, influencing historical events. This premise could help explain his ability to exist in his own series, considering events that transpired in a certain MCU film.
Waldron has worked on various Dan Harmon shows, including Rick and Morty, Community, and HarmonQuest, and has written a feature spec script for a sci-fi romantic comedy called The Worst Guy of All Time (And the Girl Who Came to Kill Him).
The Loki series was officially announced in November 2018 by Disney CEO Bob Iger, during an earnings call with investors, following reports from September. These early reports also suggested that a Scarlet Witch show was on the way for the Disney+ streaming service. Earlier this year, Captain Marvel co-writer Jac Schaeffer was named as showrunner for The Vision and Scarlet Witch series.
