In week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football, Clowney recorded a strip sack on Jimmy Garoppolo which was recovered by teammate Poona Ford and recovered a fumble forced by teammate Jarran Reed on Garoppolo for a 10-yard touchdown in the 27–24 overtime win. He was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance.
